Right on time for Day of the Dead, our band will host an Ancestral Medicine Song Circle. This will be an intimate song circle in honor of our ancestors, celebrating our departed loved ones. The event takes place on Friday night, Nov 1, 2019, in Austin, TX.
Music will be highly participatory—your chance to sing along and share songs ancient and new. Cosmic Butterflies [And A Bear] will lead a traditional “circle singing” exercise, and then host an ancestral medicine song circle. Participants may choose to join in, share a song, or simply listen.
All are encouraged to honor their ancestors with pictures and offerings for the altar. We will celebrate our “greater family” with ecstatic music. We envision a highly participatory gathering of contemplative music, singing together in harmony and rhythm. In this way, music is the medicine, soothing the body, heart, mind, soul, and spirit.
Song Circle Agreements: 1) The space is safe for anyone to sing any song from any spiritual tradition they are moved to connect with; 2) The singing voice is the primary focus, and so all musical instruments are in service to it; and 3) There is no ultimate ‘right’ way to sing a song, and so we cannot ‘correct’ a song, or a voice.
Admission is $30 requested donation, which can be purchased in advance: Tickets. Spaces are limited to 40 guests. RSVP. See our Facebook Event for more information.
